I’m Louise, a professional portrait sketch artist based in the sleepy seaside town of Aberystwyth, West Wales. I create pencil sketch portraits of both people and animals from photographs, using graphite pencils.

I started drawing at a very young age, drawing anything from transcriptions of paintings to drawings of ladies in fancy dresses and horses; many, many horses! I have always felt most myself and most comfortable whilst creating. Creating weird and wonderful things and drawing, drawing, drawing! Drawing I something that has stayed with me throughout my life’s many adventures and continues to be a big part of my life (an even bigger part now than it has ever been) and I continue to enjoy every mark I make on paper.
One day I decided to focus on the one thing that I love to do the most, which is to create. I embarked on a Fine Art Degree at Aberystwyth University where I learned many skills and experimented with various art practices and mediums. Since graduating, I have not looked back.
Throughout all of the experimentation, portraits were the one thing that stuck with me. With a deep love for animals and a fascination for faces, I am using the skills I have acquired over the years to capture the likeness of those we love the most. As I draw from photographs, it is my mission to capture the essence of my subject, engaging with them each and every step of the way; figuring out their personality and what kind of life they have experienced.
